Optimization of Organic Feed Usage
Company Background
Glacial Grains Spirits is wholly owned subsidiary of Chippewa Valley Ethanol Company, the operating entity of the 950 farmer owned Chippewa Valley Agrifuels Cooperative
Open Innovation Challenge
Efficient and effective handling and marketing solutions to add value to small batch organic distillers’ grains from corn.
Reason for Seeking External Innovation Partnership
Glacial Grains Spirits produces a high-quality organic Ethyl Alcohol used in many applications from cosmetics and pharmaceuticals to beverage. The production of this organic alcohol produces about 385 tons annually on a dry basis of organic distillers grain – about 32 tons every 4 weeks.
Glacial Grains Spirits has limited opportunity to utilize this valuable feedstock as existing storage space and drying capacity do not allow for the facility to segregate these distillers’ grains to maintain food grade and maintain organic certification.
Scope of Solution Space
- Markets to utilize wet organic distillers grains
- Ideas/options to competitively store, market, and load a segregated organic distillers grain.
- Cost effective solutions to dry small volumes of organic distillers grains to expand market access.
