Syngenta 2

Last mile challenge – communicating our food footprint

Company Background
Syngenta Ventures is the corporate venture capital team of Syngenta, a leading agriculture company helping to improve global food security.  Syngenta Ventures mission is to help grow companies that support Syngenta’s vision of producing more crops from fewer resources.  Created in 2009, Syngenta Ventures was one of the first venture capital teams dedicated to agriculture. With an experienced team of investment professionals possessing more than 45 collective years of VC experience, Syngenta Ventures has established itself as one of the most active and knowledgeable agricultural investors. We have a diverse, global portfolio of companies that share the common theme of helping growers to be more profitable and positively impacting the future of agriculture.  Syngenta Ventures is stage agnostic, from investing in seed rounds to larger growth equity rounds.

Open Innovation Challenge
This challenge is about addressing the opportunity presented in between the data input step by growers and the packaging and communication of this data to retailers and consumers in a way that is pertinent to them.

Reason for Seeking External Innovation Partnership
Consumers and retailers alike have a growing desire to become more and more informed about the places their food comes from and where it is grown.  There is growing interest not only in what or where their food comes from, but in how it was grown.  Retailers and consumers want to know the footprint of their food.  There are plenty of platforms out there collecting data on the farm where input metrics and practices taking place on the farm, Land.db for example being one of those.
